Self talk. Who's in your head?
Who's really in your head? Perhaps you're no longer bogged down by comparing yourself to others, but when you sit down to speak to your client prospects, your colleagues, perhaps even your spouse, who's in your head? What's the rhetoric in your head when you're about to pitch? Why?
You're not alone
On maternity leave, I committed to being a full-time Mom to my baby girl. I learnt so much from her, about her, about myself, about my lens on the world; things I can't imagine learning anywhere else. What I didn't expect was the loss of self. After all, I speak, write and empower others around self care!
Suddenly, when I tried to visualize my client avatar, the voices and images that kept turning up were the mainstream voices that didn't approve of my approach to business. What kind of MBA walks around spouting "flow, ease and synchronicity" in business?!
Despite having supported dozens of clients over the years in embracing business models unique to them, their clients and energy needs, regardless of society's outlook, I somehow had to do that work on myself again. Somehow fear that baby brain would never give me my business mind back - that the deeper awareness that I'd developed slowing down for motherhood wasn't going to work in business. All lies of course.
Change the conversation
Today, I've turned things around, again. Talking about these thoughts and being allowed to have the conversation out loud, so that I could reframe it, really made a difference. Honestly, it's why the right entrepreneurial community matters.
True community doesn't try to make you one of the herd. It embraces what only you as a sovereign individual can bring to the table. It celebrates what you can create with free will, and believes that you will. It holds space for you to hear, trust and know yourself, without trying to shape or mold you. In life and in business, from spouse to clients, that is community.
